During his tenure as coach of the Turkey national team, Lucescu debuted several players, notably Zeki Çelik, Merih Demiral, and İrfan Can Kahveci. On 2 August 2017, he was appointed as the new head coach of Turkey, succeeding Fatih Terim. Managerial career
